We live in a society with high expectations.
Where more is better. Where people like us do things like this. Where we do things in hopes of a better tomorrow but rarely enjoy today. Where we live the life we’re given. Where we react rather than choose. Where we continue the pattern. Where we are afraid of change.
And then we wake up one morning and wonder “how did I get here?”
How to reinvent yourself and redesign your life
The way to redesign your life and getting unstuck is to break the pattern. If you want to reinvent yourself stop merely reacting to the things that happen to you. Ask yourself what do you want in life, then act on it!
If you’re reading this, my guess is that you’re not happy with the way your life is right now. I’m not saying you’re necessarily unhappy, but you are ready to make a change for the better.
Maybe you’re at a major crossroad in your life. Maybe you’re entering a new season of life. Maybe you’re feeling burnt out. Maybe you realized that doing it all by the book isn’t bringing you what you want in life.
Or maybe, the pandemic hit you hard and rained all over your parade. If so, welcome to the club! It’s a big club and still growing.
Here’s how to reinvent yourself and redesign your life in 9 steps!
1. Ask yourself what do you want in life?
Boy that’s a big question!
You probably won’t find the purpose of life from today to tomorrow. And you know what, what you want will keep changing and evolving as you grow and evolve in life.
So keep asking yourself “What do I want in life? Who do I want to be? What truly matters to me?” and be honest with yourself.
Maybe you won’t like the answer you find and that’s fine. Or maybe you won’t find an answer at all, and that’s ok too. As long as you keep asking yourself this question you’re on the right path.
Really tune in with yourself and listen to your gut. Learn to distinguish fear from excitement. Tune out other people’s wants and expectations. Keep experimenting.
And be kind to yourself, a little bit of self compassion goes a long way.
2. Adopt new habits that will help you change your life
Our habits shape who we are. Yet they happen on auto pilot and we often aren’t aware of them.
What habits do you have that are not aligned with who you want to be? What habits can you adopt to become the optimal you?
While it’s hard to change habits, once we do succeed, they’re the easiest way to create the life you want. They happen on auto pilot after all.
One habit at the time you can start to live your life in better alignment with your new life design.
Do you want to be healthy and energetic? Then start by building the habit of exercising and eating healthy.
Do you want to be rich and successful in life? Then start by building the habit of deep work and investing.
Do you want to have a rich social life? Then start by build the habit of reaching out to people and making time for social activities.
The habits you’ll want to work on will greatly depend on what you want in life and who you want to become.
3. Let it go
Let go of old grudges, resentments, unhealthy habits and limiting beliefs that hold you back.
It won’t be easy, and it will take time and a tremendous amount of mental strength. But it’s the only way to find your peace of mind.
Let go of what no longer serves you and make space for new better things. There’s only so much baggage you can take with you on your trip to your dream life so choose wisely.
4. Set intentional goals
Not long ago I read somewhere that 80% of people never set goals. I never checked the reliability of that source but even if the actual percentage is just half of it … that’s an awful lot of people who never set goals!
How do you know where to go if you don’t have a destination?
Setting intentional gals that are aligned with what you want is not a step you should skip. These goals will serve as your North star and guide you. Reaching them is the only way to design your dream life.

5. Get out of your comfort zone
Nothing new ever happens inside our comfort zone. That’s why it’s comfortable – nothing ever changes and as humans we have an innate fear of change.
However, when we are trying to reinvent ourselves and want to build a life we love, we need to face our fears and step outside our little bubble.
That’s why it’s important to set goals outside our comfort zone as they promote growth and get us closer to how we envisioned our new life design.
Reinventing yourself and your life means you need to take risks. You need to face your fears.
6. Reevaluate your relationships
You’ve probably heard the saying show me who your friends are and i will tell you who you are.
The relationships we have and the people we surround ourselves with also shape who we become. Because people like us do things like this.
It’s hard to ignore our herd instinct. We’re social creatures and we want to fit in. And we can use this to our advantage too.
By choosing wisely where we’re trying to fit in we can make great progress in becoming who we really want to be. Do your best to surround yourself with mentors and people who inspire you and help you on your quest to create a life you love.
Next, look at your relationships with money, food, responsibility and even yourself. Are they aligned with what you want in life? If not, it’s time to work on your mindset and create some habits that support a healthier relationship with whatever you’re struggling with.
7. Make time to do what you love
This is your life, do what you love!
Build your life around the things that bring you joy and get you closer to what you want in life.
I’m not saying to be irresponsible or live above your means but there is no point in redesigning life if we get stuck right back in a new cartwheel.
If you make time for the things you love you’ll live a joyful life.
8. Learn to say no
The external pressure and the need to please others are a big part of why we end up going down a path that is not right for us. By reacting to outside expectations we give up control.
If you want to redesign your life you need to be intentional with what you say yes to. Choose where you spend your time and energy wisely.
It can be hard to say no when we’re so used to pleasing others. But this is a muscle we can train.
We all have a limited amount of time and energy. Spend it on what matters to you.
9. Practice gratitude and celebrate your wins
Reinventing yourself takes time. Making big changes can be hard.
It’s important to celebrate the little wins. Acknowledge the progress you’re making and show gratitude for what you have and what’s yet to come.
